On October 23, 2025, the Kuldīga Doctorate was officially opened – a new hub for modern and high-quality healthcare for the residents of Kuldīga and the surrounding region. Located in the heart of Kuldīga, on the site of the former hospital, the project combines the reconstruction of a historic building with a newly built extension to create a contemporary medical facility. The Doctorate houses six family doctor practices operating under a joint model, a radiology department (CT, X-ray, mammography, ultrasound), and offices for specialist physicians. Thanks to its central location and the close collaboration between doctors, radiology, and laboratory service providers, the new center will significantly improve the accessibility, quality, and timeliness of healthcare in Kuldīga and neighboring municipalities.

The Kuldīga Doctorate represents the first stage of an ambitious regional outpatient and day hospital medical center developed by SIA “Medicīnas centrs”, with a total floor area of 730 m². Construction of the second stage – the reconstruction of an adjacent 950 m² building – will begin this week. The new section will house a pharmacy, medical supply and optical stores, additional specialist offices, and a rehabilitation department. Completion is planned within one year.

The third stage, currently in the final phase of technical design, will feature a newly constructed 2,200 m² facility. Construction is expected to start in spring 2026 and be completed by the end of 2027. It will host regional branches of several well-known and highly regarded medical institutions from across Latvia. The mansard floor will include day-surgery operating rooms and patient recovery suites.

Due to its geographical location, Kuldīga is ideally positioned to serve as a central hub in Kurzeme for specialized outpatient and day hospital services. With a service radius of 50–60 km and a potential catchment area of approximately 100,000 residents, Kuldīga provides the most accessible point for around 120,000–140,000 people across the Kuldīga, Saldus, Talsi, Tukums, Ventspils, and South Kurzeme municipalities. Establishing a regional healthcare center here will enhance service accessibility, quality, and cost efficiency. The synergy between medical companies and healthcare professionals will further foster innovation and service development.

The project is being implemented by SIA “Medicīnas centrs”, a subsidiary of the family-owned company SIA “EF Holding”, and is financed entirely through private investment in cooperation with SEB Bank. The construction of the first stage – the Kuldīga Doctorate – represents an investment of €1.5 million by SIA “Medicīnas centrs”. An additional €700 000 has been invested by SIA “Vizuālā diagnostika” in the establishment of a state-of-the-art radiology center within the Doctorate premises.

The project’s guiding vision is to promote the well-being of residents in Kuldīga and neighboring regions, while contributing to the sustainable development of the city.
